Every year, the District participates in the E-Rate program which provides discounts on Internet and Network Services specifically for schools and libraries. Administered by Universal Service and Administrative Company (USAC) with oversight by the Federal Communication Commission (FCC), the District receives a discount of approximately 50% on the cost of services. E-Rate Program calculates discounts based on the percentage of students eligible for free and reduced lunches under the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). By participating in the E-Rate program, the District has saved approximately $205,677.00 in Internet and Network services to school sites in the current fiscal year. The renewal of the 2018-2019 Fiscal Year contract includes the following services:
- Internet Services Provided by the San Mateo County Office of Education
- Network Services to San Mateo Park Elementary
- DSL Service to George Hall Elementary
Contracts are currently in place for all other school sites within the San Mateo-Foster City School District and do not need to be renewed with this year’s E-Rate application.
IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES APPROVE ALL BID EVALUATIONS AND CONTINUE SERVICES WITH CURRENT SERVICE PROVIDERS.
The financial savings through the E-Rate program on a yearly basis is approximately $206,000.00.
