Background The District hired LPA, an architecture firm, to do a Facilities Master Plan to assess capital needs in the years ahead. After several meetings with community members and district staff, the firm is developing the first draft of that plan. An update on the process will be presented at this Board meeting, and a Town Hall meeting is scheduled for January 23rd, 2017 to share the draft with stakeholders. Current Considerations This report will reflect the input LPA has received to date. Based on that input, initial recommendations are being developed. These recommendations are intended to provide guidance for a capital improvement plan that will assist the district in meeting its educational goals from a facilities standpoint in the years ahead. Financial Implications This report contains no fiscal implications. It is an update only, and future fiscal implications will be based on any actions the Board pursues after the plan is completed.

Background During the past two years, LCHS Math department members have been reviewing a variety of instructional materials and communicating their findings to site administration. Background The District hired LPA, an architecture firm, to do a Facilities Master. There are also services that may be needed separate from the agreement related to the Facilities Master Plan. In order to have professional consultation on potential projects within the district, this additional services aspect is being submitted to the Board for a first read. The intent is to have in place an agreement that will provide guidance and recommendations for improvements separate from our Facilities Master Plan. Current Considerations This La Cañada Unified School District receives extensive support from families and community members. Often this support is to improve our facilities. With these improvements there can be architectural elements that require professional consultation. These topics may involve structural, ventilation, access issues, or other topics. The expertise of an architectural firm will help inform decisions on how to best move forward with desired improvements. Financial Implications The contract is not to exceed $20,000 in fees for services. The hourly rates are included as reference for the agreement.

Background The La Cañada Unified School District must maintain a healthy, safe, clean and dry working and learning environment for its students and staff. The foundations outside the staff work room at the La Cañada Elementary School and near the 700 Conference Room at the La Canada High School are subject to leaking from the foundations and walls that are below the exterior grade. Current Considerations Last June we advertised these jobs to bid to Stone Roofing, Reycrest Waterproofing and Best Waterproofing. Only Best Waterproofing submitted a bid on June 7, 2016 which was $94,760.00. We then solicited a bids from WTI General Services on July 6, 2016. They submitted not to exceed bids that total $49,500.00. Financial Implications Funds for this service will come from Fund 14.0 (Deferred Maintenance).
|
|
It is recommended that the Governing Board approve this request to accept the not to exceed bids from WTI Services based on the proposals submitted July 6, 2016. |

BACKGROUND LCHS math department members and administrators have been working with District consultant Heather Dallas to create two new courses aligned with the Common Core State Standards. Last year LC Math 1 and LC Math 1 Advanced courses were introduced to our students. This year we have added LC Math 2 and LC Math 2 Advanced and next year we would like to add two new courses to the offerings. The administration reviews all proposed new courses and is making a recommendation to add these two new courses to our offerings. CURRENT CONSIDERATIONS Please see attached course description for the following potential new courses: LC Math 3; LC Math 3 Advanced. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS The financial impact will be in instructional material acquisition. Staff will be compensated to design instructional materials and assessments for these two courses. Staffing will come from the overall staffing allotment. Once a school year has been confirmed for a district-wide math series adoption, new textbooks will be purchased for these courses.
