Background The City of La Canada Flintridge and the La Canada Unified School District do not share co-terminus boundaries. The jurisdictional boundaries of the City encompass a small section of the La Canada community that is served by the Glendale Unified School District. Generally, this is the area west of Rosebank Drive to the City’s western border at Pickens Canyon (Subject Area). In the past four years, two different LCUSD Governing Boards have passed resolutions in support of the territory transfer of the Subject Area. Current Considerations The District has been asked by the community to support the “Territory Transfer” of the Subject Area from Glendale Unified School District’s jurisdiction in order to bring about greater unity within the community. The current iteration of this resolution supports the territory transfer if, upon the approval of the citizens’ territory transfer petition, the City of La Canada Flintridge, the Subject Area citizens, and the LCUSD can mutually agree upon a financial mitigation strategy to relieve the impacts to the LCUSD related to student housing, facilities, and personnel as required to avoid any material disruptions to the District. Financial Implications The financial potential financial implications are addressed above and in similar language in the resolution.
