5.1. Board Governance Workshop - Effective Governance Practices with an Equity Lens, Facilitated by Nicole Anderson
Rationale:

In efforts to build capacity and effectiveness of the Governing Board, sharing best practices and concepts learned in the San Mateo equity network is essential. This session will provide information and training to support next steps in the Board and district’s journey towards educational equity.  

During the session, the Governing Board will work towards the following outcomes:

1. review the draft equity statement

2. review/discuss  the current policies that have equity implications 

3. develop/evolve the equity impact action plan

 

Topics in the session will include:

·        8 Characteristics of Effective Governance Teams 

·       The Role of School Boards Leading for Educational Equity

·       The Impact of the History of Public Education on the Current Landscape 

·        Defining Equity through Student Stories

·        Recognizing and Responding to the Barriers to Educational Equity
