6. SUPERINTENDENT SERVICES/BOARD
6.1. Conduct second of three public hearings on the proposed trustee voting area plans.
Rationale:

At its regular meeting of June 10, 2021, the Board acted to approve Resolution No. 34/20-21 stating intent of Board of Trustees to transition from At-Large to a By-Trustee Area election system, in time for the November 2022 elections. 

On June 22, 2021 and June 29, 2021, Public Hearings were held in order to receive community comments and public testimony concerning the composition of potential trustee voting areas.


CURRENT CONSIDERATIONS

After completing a demographic study of the District related to the California Voting Rights Act/By-Trustee elections, National Demographic, Inc., has developed draft map options of potential Trustee Areas for the District.  At this Public Hearing, Trustees will have an opportunity to review the draft maps, receive public testimony concerning the draft maps, and provide other input for consideration.

 
Recommended Motion:
IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES RECOGNIZE SUPERINTENDENT DIEGO OCHOA, WHO WILL RECAP THE PROCESS OF ESTABLISHING A TRUSTEE AREA ELECTION SYSTEM IN SMFCSD.  THE SUPERINTENDENT WILL INTRODUCE DEMOGRAPHER DOUGLAS JOHNSON AND DEPUTY COUNTY COUNSEL TIM FOX AND ROSENDO PADILLA, JR., WHO WILL PRESENT DRAFTS OF TRUSTEE AREA MAPS FOR PURPOSES OF DISCUSSION.
