Rationale:

Board members and district employees will participate in a workshop presented by Fagen Friedman & Fulfrost, LLP, regarding the California Public Records Act (CPRA), Government Code section 6250 et al.

Mr. Villegas from F3 answered board member and staff questions regarding: personal deliberation notes; details of what constitutes a public record; the responsibility of the requester asking for documents and the responsibility of the school district in responding to vague requests for information; the use of personal and district email accounts; a PRA versus a court order to produce information; if information has been deleted; info requested even after an employee or board member has left; charging for provision of a PRA request; and draft documents versus final versions.

Rationale:

As part of the budget development process for the 2018-19 district budget, Ms. Canady will be updating the Board of Education on the most recent fiscal information coming from the Governor's office.  As the Governor's workshop is only six days prior to the January 23 workshop, Ms. Canady's presentation will was attached to this item after the agenda was published.

It was moved by Ms. Lieberman, seconded by Mr. de la Torre, and voted 7/0 to adjourn the meeting at 5:50 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 1, 2018, at 5:30 p.m. in the Malibu City Council Chambers: 23825 Stuart Ranch Road, Malibu, CA.
