B.1. Board of Education Budget Workshop
Speaker:
Tim Zearley
C. DISCUSSION AND ACTION ITEMS
C.1. Discussion of TK-6 DRAFT Safe Schools Reopening Plan
Speaker:
Krista Noonan
Rationale:
On July 17, 2020, schools located in counties on the California Department of Public Health monitoring list may not provide in-person instruction until their County has been off the monitoring list for 14 calendars days. On August 3, 2020, the California Department of Public Health provided a guidance document detailing the waiver process for TK-6 schools to reopen for in-person instruction.

As of October 7, 2020, Stanislaus County is still in the “purple/widespread” tier of the State Monitoring dashboard, which would mean a waiver would be required to reopen TK-6 grades.

Modesto City Schools will provide the Board of Education with a follow-up discussion on the criteria required in order to submit a TK-6 Waiver. The report will provide the background and context to the waiver process and include the required components necessary for successful submission. The report will also share a summary of survey feedback from parents and staff.

The health and safety of our students and staff remains paramount. The District also recognizes that our students will clearly benefit from the opportunity to return to in-person instruction. The District plans to return to the Board of Education on October 19 to discuss plans to move forward.

This supports District goals:
1.1 Ensure Great Instruction First Time (GIFT).
3.4 Improve customer service for students, families, staff, and community to support welcoming school environments.

Recommended Motion:
The Board of Education will hear and discuss a report on the TK-6 waiver process to reopen elementary schools for in-person Instruction.
