Rationale:

2017 District Classified Employees of the Year

Twin Rivers Unified School District (TRUSD) is fortunate to have outstanding support staff working throughout our district. Following site and department selections and an interview process, four candidates were selected to represent TRUSD in the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) Classified Employee of the Year process.

We are pleased to honor the following individuals for their exemplary service to students. These individuals perform important functions critical to schools and the success of students.

  • Sandra Braff, Academic Intervention Specialist Bilingual (Foothill Ranch Middle School)
  • Irina Manzyuk, Translator Interpreter (English Learner Department)
  • Charles McGimsey, IT User Support Technician (Ridgepoint Elementary)
  • Robyn McKenzie*, Café Services Team Leader I (Hillsdale Elementary)

 * Robyn McKenzie was also selected to represent Sacramento County in the state selection process.

2017-2018 District Teachers of the Year

TRUSD Is pleased to recognize excellence in teaching within our schools. Following site selections, essays, classroom visitations, and an interview process, a panel of community members and staff selected the top two candidates to represent TRUSD in the Sacramento County Office of Education Teacher of the Year program. These teachers display passion, commitment and dedication that inspires each student to extraordinary achievement every day.

H.2. Nutrition Services in honor of National School Lunch Week
Rationale:

In honor of National School Lunch week, October 9th - 13th, the Board recognizes Nutrition Services staff for their dedication to bringing well-balanced and healthy meals to our students each and every day. During National School Lunch week staff puts together student challenges, activities, give-aways, and special offerings hosted by cafeteria staff. This year the "Recipe for Success" includes a special farm fresh produce promotion every day of the week as well as a contest in which students can enter a poster, slogan, cartoon, cheer, poem, song, or dance about eating healthy. L.7. APPROVE Disposal of Surplus Property to be Donated to an Appropriate Charity or Disposed of Through Recycling or the Public Dump
Rationale:

Under Sections 17545 and 17546 of the Education Code, if the Governing Board of any school district finds that one or more items of the District personal property is not required for school purposes, should be disposed of for the purpose of replacement, or is unsatisfactory or not suitable for school use; and by a unanimous vote of the Board members present finds that the property is of insufficient value to defray the costs of arranging a sale, then the property may be donated to a charitable organization deemed appropriate by the Board, or it may be disposed of in the local public dump.  The Governing Board may empower an employee of the District to order the disposal of said property in a public dump.

This property is not suitable for sale for parts and would only be appropriate to offer to recyclers for some scrap metals. This property may be donated to a charitable organization deemed appropriate by the Board, or be disposed of in the local recycling center or public dump, without being advertised for auction per Education Code requirements. L.9. APPROVE Schools' Addendum to the 2017/18 Single Plan for Student Achievement
Rationale:

The Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) is a plan of action to raise the academic performance of all students to the level of performance goals established under federal, state and local programs.

The contents of the school plans are aligned with the Local Education Agency (LEA) plan and school goals for improving student achievement.  School goals are based upon an analysis of verifiable district data; including local measures of pupil achievement, CAHSEE passage rates, UC A-G Completion, graduation rates, drop-out rates, CELDT scores and AP passages rates.

Rationale:

The Board of Trustees are asked to approve out-of-state travel to conferences and workshops for staff from various sites seeking to increase their capacity professionally, with the ultimate goal of increasing student achievement. Further, the Board is asked to approve overnight school sponsored student travel, which is designed to enhance and enrich their curriculum and nurture a desire for lifelong learning.
