10.1. Consideration and Approval of BHS Athletics to follow the new proposal and schedule provided by the North Coast Section (Action Item)
Speaker:
Dr. Khushwinder Gill, Assistant Superintendent Human Resources & Staff
Rationale:
Benicia High School Athletics Program staff will provide an update on high school athletics and  is requesting approval to follow the new proposal and schedule provided by the North Coast Section. Since our last presentation on November 5th, the North Coast Section has changed their guidance regarding athletics and updated possible start dates. Rather than have two seasons for sports, NCS has moved to align sports with the Tiered system, with sports designated for Purple tier, Red tier, Orange tier, and Yellow tier. As a result, we are working to change our planning, staffing of coaches, and communication out to the school community. We will not have the opportunity to provide a conditioning period, but would begin practice of Purple tier sports in cohorts with previously approved safety precautions once the regional or county Shelter-at-Home orders are lifted.
