SPECIAL BOARD MEETING VIA ZOOM Open Session - 5:00 p.m.

A. NOTICE: INFORMATION FOR VIRTUAL SPECIAL BOARD MEETING
Rationale:

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Newsom issued Executive Order N-29-20, which temporarily suspends provisions of the Brown Act relating to public meetings. As such, Elk Grove Unified School District Board members will be conducting the open session of the Special Board Meeting via Zoom video/teleconferencing.

Zoom Online Meeting Platform

Zoom is an online meeting platform that will be used by the Elk Grove Unified School District Board of Education during the current State social distancing and shelter at home order. Those who wish to view the meeting will need an internet connection and device. Zoom is compatible with Windows and Apple computers, along with iPhones, iPads, Chromebooks and Android devices. The device must have working speakers to hear the meeting.

Please note:  If Zoom is not currently installed on a computer or device, Zoom will ask to download a small app to the computer or device. Please accept the install to continue to the Zoom meeting. Zoom will only need to install the app the first time a computer or device is used with Zoom. Mobile device users can install the Zoom app prior to a meeting by visiting their app store. ZOOM Cloud Meetings is the name of the app.

NOTICE:  Public Comment for Items on the Agenda

If you wish to address the Board about an item on the Special Board Meeting agenda, an electronic speaker card must be submitted with your written comments.  In completing the electronic speaker card, please be sure to identify the specific agenda item you would like to address.  Individuals with comments on general school district issues that are not on the agenda for this Special Meeting, may address those at a regularly scheduled Board meeting.  The electronic speaker card can be found on the District’s website and by using the following link:

To ensure maximum input and participation, electronic speaker cards may be submitted prior to the Special Board Meeting, or during the meeting, up until 15 minutes after the last candidate answers the last question during the interview process.  Appropriately completed electronic speaker cards will be read by a staff member during this Special Board meeting.  Time limitations are at the discretion of the President of the Board of Trustees. 

The Zoom meeting will be recorded (video and audio) and will be made available on the Elk Grove Unified School District’s YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/user/elkgroveunified

 

 
B. CALL MEETING TO ORDER

C.II. Board Member Interview Process Orientation

Recommended Motion:
The Board will review the interview process to fill the provisional vacancy on the Board of the Elk Grove Unified School District.  
Rationale:
  • The 4 candidates who have expressed interest in being appointed to the Board were selected by the Board Subcommittee after review of applications received in the Superintendent's Office.
  • All candidates will be asked to remain logged on to the meeting throughout the interview process.  
  • Candidates will be asked questions on a rotating basis to ensure maximum fairness in the interview process.  For example:
    • The Board will ask the first question to Candidate A.  Candidate A will then have 5 minutes to answer that question.  The Board will then ask the same question to Candidate B, and Candidate C.
    • The order will then rotate for the second question, where Candidate B will have the first opportunity to answer, Candidate C will go second, followed by Candidate A.
    • The order will continue to rotate for every question.
         
  • The initial order has been determined using a randomized selection process.

C.IV. Public Comment on Items on the Agenda

Recommended Motion:
Staff will read public comments related to items on the agenda that were submitted in the Google document application.
C.V. Deliberation and Selection
Recommended Motion:
The Board will move to select a candidate to the provisional Board vacancy by a majority of board votes in favor of the candidate. 
Rationale:
Board members will discuss his/her top candidates.  After a full discussion by all board members, the board will move to select a candidate to the provisional Board vacancy by a majority of the board votes in favor of the candidate.  The candidate will be appointed and the candidate will be sworn in by either the Board President or the Superintendent.
