The public is invited to comment on the identified items listed under "Closed Session" prior to adjournment to Closed Session.  Comments shall be limited to three (3) minutes each.  In order to address the Board of Trustees, members of the public may choose to:

1) Complete the online comment card here:  www.ovsd.org/comment no later than 4:45 p.m. for comments regarding Closed Session Agenda items.

2) Wait outside the Board Room (address above) at 4:45 p.m., following social distance markings and wearing a mask, until you are invited into the Board room to make your public comment regarding Closed Session Agenda items.

I.1. Superintendent's Office: Proposed Additions/Revisions to Board Policy Series 6000: Instruction - Board Policy 6157 – Distance Learning (First Reading) (Information)
Rationale:

Ocean View School District’s Board Policies are frequently reviewed and revised to ensure alignment with the latest state and federal legislation. As necessary, new policies are developed, and/or existing ones are modified in order to reflect legislative action as per Education Code or updated processes and procedures as needed.

The District finds it necessary to incorporate a new Board Policy regarding Distance Learning, recognizing this type of learning as a viable alternative instructional strategy that supports student achievement of academic goals, for regular instruction or when a school site is physically closed due to illness, natural disaster, or other emergency.

The attached Board Policy 6157 (Exhibit A) is before the Board tonight for First Reading and information.

 
Financial Impact:

There is no financial impact resulting from this Agenda item.

Recommended Motion:

It is respectfully recommended that the Board of Trustees receive for information Proposed Additions/Revisions to Board Policy Series 6000: Instruction - Board Policy 6157 – Distance Learning.

Rationale:

Ocean View School District’s Board Policies are frequently reviewed and revised to ensure alignment with the latest state and federal legislation. As necessary, new policies are developed, and/or existing ones are modified in order to reflect legislative action as per Education Code or updated processes and procedures as needed.

The District finds it necessary to incorporate a new Board Policy regarding Alternative Schools/Program of Choice, which allows the District to establish and maintain an alternative school or separate class group (program) within a traditional school, offering a different learning structure, learning philosophy, or academic emphasis.  Alternative Schools/Programs of choice are voluntary and parents/guardians must enroll their children to participate.    

The attached Board Policy 6181 (Exhibit A) is before the Board tonight for First Reading and information.

There is no financial impact resulting from this Agenda item.

Recommended Motion:

It is respectfully recommended that the Board of Trustees receive for information Proposed Additions/Revisions to Board Policy Series 6000: Instruction - Board Policy 6181 – Alternative Schools/Program of Choice.
