Superintendent Dr. Abbati will present a preliminary proposal for a communication plan as directed by the Governing Board in support of the Financial Advisory Committee goals for 2015-2016.
|
Following is a summary of Board discussion and proposed consulting services work that would be performed by Gollotti Consulting Services:
Current situation:
There are conflicting brands, logos and messaging in the Los Gatos Union School District between the district, LGEF, and Art Docents (Home & School Clubs are not part of this current situation and work scope). This mixed brand and positioning approach also creates confusion and a separatist sense in the community between the LGUSD and the High School. Creating a strategic brand, marketing, and communications plan will be critical for gaining strong community buy-in and contributions starting in 2015-2016 and leading up to above par community support for a future parcel tax increase and funding for a school bond for additional school facilities.
Following are the key conflicts and resulting outcomes that will need to be overcome by the development and implementation of the plan by Gollotti Consulting Services:
Conflict #1 Lack of clarity of what is funded, how it's funded, and where funding resides in support of running the schools and elective offerings. Outcome #1 Disjointed branding, positioning and messaging resulting in fragmented community funding into the Foundation and Home & School Clubs
Conflict #2 Lack of equitable community buy-in to support the whole child across the five LGUSD schools and with the District Office. Outcome #2 Lack of understanding and/or respect, rigor and sustainable community buy-in that is needed to be the glue that is necessary across LGUSD.
Conflict #3 Lack of understanding that the LGUSD and Los Gatos/Saratoga High School are separate districts, funding, support etc. resulting in confusion over roles, accomplishments and recognition for LGUSD.
Outcome #3 A possible contributor to the conflicting perceptions that LGUSD does not have an iconic landmark.
Summary of key phases are areas of work to address the above conflicts and change the outcome:
Phase I (By end of September) 1. New District brand and logo (design, color palette) 2. Brand architecture (joint/sub-branding logos - District, LGEF, Art Docents (color palette, font size/type, image size) 3. Brand positioning/messaging hierarchy and talking points 4. Tag line and linkages across joint/sub-branding logos 5. Stakeholder buy-in and working team (identify key ways to socialize over summer - at key meetings and/or establish a sub-committee of doers)
Present Phase I at Sept FAC? - Other stakeholder buy-in - Board, Home & School Clubs, LGEF, Principals
Phase II (October - November) - Brand Identity playbook - brand, logo, messaging usage guidelines across key collateral and communication methods - Working team from above - Identify content gatherers/developers of success stories (library of snippets for Annual Report & Citizen Report) - Co-develop Annual Report - positioning, messaging, creative guidance in support of video creation - Co-develop Citizen Report (working w/ key members) - Consult with stakeholders (LGEF, Home & School Clubs) on joint campaign development and launch - LGUSD Communication campaign - topics, timing, methods calendar - Work with LGUSD Summit on strategic framework and agenda
Phase III (January - February) - 2nd Half Year communication campaign - On-site Summit counsel - Summarize and share results with Board
