The Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services/HR will present the initial collective bargaining proposal from the Los Gatos Elementary Teachers Association (LGETA) and the Los Gatos Union School District (LGUSD) to the Governing Board for approval. |
This is the initial proposal between the Los Gatos Union School District (LGUSD) and the Los Gatos Elementary Teachers Association (LGETA) for the 2022-23 negotiations cycle. As required by the contract, the Los Gatos Elementary Teachers Association (LGETA) and the Los Gatos Union School District (LGUSD) will open and negotiate Article 12, Unit Member Benefits and Article 13, Wages, as well as the Collaboration Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs). The contract also provides for two additional articles to be opened by either side based on the interests of the association and the District. LGUSD will open Article 14: Temporary Teachers, Shared Contracts, Part-time Contracts and Early Retirement. LGETA has indicated they would like to open Article 4: Hours of Employment and Article 10: Leaves for this negotiations cycle. We look forward to working together to continue the history of a strong relationship between the District and the Association during the upcoming negotiations.

Chief Business Official will present a solar project update. This includes a modification to the current contract of $90,000 over the 20 year contract or $.0038/kwh. The Chief Business Official recommends that the Board approve this modification of the contract.
Over the past year steel prices have escalated over 240% or $249K. This price escalation has made the deal financially unfeasible to complete in a timely fashion by Forefront Power. Forefront Power has offered to either delay the project until steel prices return to normal or to share the increase on a 36%/64% basis. There is no out of pocket cost for the District and all costs are rolled into the kilowatt per hour cost. Given the current costs and tax incentives, the District would not be able to secure a new contract on a more favorable basis. Also in discussing with SPURR, our utility consultant, they assured that the District is receiving a excellent offer in comparison to other deals they are reviewing.
The Board of Trustees approve the increase in the contract by $90,000 or the PPA rate increase of $.0038/kwh.
The financial impact is an increase in the Power Purchase Agreement of $90K or $.0038/kwh.

Director of Child Nutrition, Kerry Billner, will present Resolution# 04-21-22 for the submittal of an application to CalRecycle for $250,000 edible food recovery grant.
The grant offers support for programs that allows us to reduce waste and to improve our production, recycling and reuse of food for consumption and would be immediately welcome in our District. We have avid gardening and green teams at multiple sites including student, staff and community members. These teams have lead student education and participation in recycling and sorting that have dramatically reduced our trash. However, the amount of food waste has increased as more students participate in the universal meal program. We are looking to use different packaging materials and sorting of trash to help further reduce our waste and to help our students successfully be good stewards of our environment. We believe that we could become a model of waste reduction for other Districts to implement. In addition, due to our transportation and storage equipment, we are not generally able to successfully save food for reserving.
Eligible costs include, but are not limited to the following: Refrigerators, freezers, and refrigeration systems. Vehicles such as refrigerated trucks. Transportation such as third party food transportation services. Storage and collection infrastructure such as food crates and bins
The District has requested a blast chiller, a packaging unit and storage bins to help maintain temperature of the meals to allow for reserving. Any additional funding received would be used to purchase a new vehicle with refrigeration and electrical outlets.
Approval of Resolution #04-21-22 to allow the District to apply, accept the funds and execute the grant agreements if approved by CalRecycle.
This would provide grant income of $250,000 to purchase equipment.
