Background The LCUSD Director of Technology, Jamie Lewsadder, recently received her Chief Technology Officer certification. Given the significant integration of Technology with Educational Services, Fiscal Services and Operations, and Human Resources, integrating a CTO position into a District’s Cabinet is increasingly reflective of best practices amongst districts. The Governing Board must approve all employment contracts. Current Considerations The Superintendent is recommending that Jamie Lewsadder become the Chief Technology Officer, a Cabinet-level contract position. Financial Implications The salary differential for 2016-17 between the Director of Technology position and the CTO position is $7,661. The Director of Technology position will not be replaced.

Background For the past ten years LCUSD has been providing optional Spanish classes at its elementary sites funded by the La Canada Flintridge Educational Foundation (LCFEF). During the past three years we have had one full time teacher providing Spanish language instruction at these school sites to ensure quality and consistency of instruction. However, not every student has been able to enroll in this class due to contractual class size limitations. LCUSD has been using a lottery system to select students for participation. Current Considerations LCUSD will be working with Middlebury University to provide all K-6 students the opportunity to enroll in interactive digital world language courses in an online environment. Student participation in this program will be completely voluntary and students can use it as often or as little as they wish. | Chinese | German Courses will use interactive media, including animated stories, myths and legends, to introduce basic expressions and help develop vocabulary. Students’ primary focus will be on listening and speaking, along with opportunities to practice what they have learned in familiar settings. The Middlebury online courses will help students continue to build a language foundation for language learning, while introducing basic expressions, words and phrases. Financial Implications The cost of Middlebury online courses is $27,549.
|
|
It is recommended that the Governing Board approve the contract with Middlebury University so that LCUSD can implement it effective August 2016. |

BACKGROUND The district is mandated to provide Special Education for learning handicapped three to six year olds. The “Sprouts” program meets some of our legal preschool responsibilities and is offered on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 3:00 to 4:00 with a goal of providing an individualized program for students and parents. Parents are expected to attend the Wednesday sessions with their child. The district also offers its own pre-school class at Paradise Canyon.
CURRENT CONSIDERATIONS The Cañada Auxiliary of Professionals, Assistance League of Flintridge, is offering the attached agreement to conduct the "Sprouts" program for the 2016-2017 school year.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS The district will be responsible for the maintenance of the facility used for the class.
