BACKGROUND Near the end of last school year, the state released the new accountability model for public schools and school districts known as the California School Dashboard. The Dashboard represents multiple measures to give a wider view of overall performance and progress. By December 1, 2017, it will include state and local performance indicators. The state indicators are academic performance, graduation rates, college and career readiness, English learner progress, suspension rates and chronic absenteeism. Each school district will establish its own local performance indicators for the Dashboard. The four required local indicators are basic school conditions, implementation of academic standards, school climate surveys and parent involvement/engagement. The determination of Met, Not Met or Not Met for Two Years or More will be identified for each local metric. The metrics and measure of progress selected are to be reported to the Governing Board at a regularly scheduled meeting and provided to the stakeholders and the public.
CURRENT CONSIDERATIONS This presentation serves to inform the Governing Board and public of La Cañada Unified School District of the four Local Indicators on the California Dashboard. Local indicators are only provided in the Dashboard for districtwide measures. There is no information disaggregated by school site or student subgroups. Priority 1, Basic Conditions Indicator will be measured by the annual School Accountability Report Card data. The data includes teacher qualifications, textbooks for all students and safe and clean schools. LCUSD will use the state provided Reflection Tool to rate Priority 2, Implementation of State Academic Standards. Ratings will be given for professional development regarding the academic standards, instructional materials, improvement in instructional delivery and implementation of Career Tech Ed, Health, Physical Education and Visual and Performing Arts . To measure LCUSD’s progress on Priority 3, Parent Engagement, the Panorama Ed and Local Control Accountability Plan survey data will be submitted. The Panorama Ed Student Survey will also be used to determine student perceived school safety and connectedness required in Priority 6, School Climate. After careful review of the data, it will be reported in the 2017-2018 California School Dashboard that LCUSD met the standards for each local indicator. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS There is no financial impact to this discussion item.
