Background On January 8, 2021, Dr. Barbara Ferrer issued a Memorandum to all TK-12 Schools stating that Public Health strongly recommends suspending in-person instruction for the month of January (see attached). Current Considerations At its regularly scheduled meeting on January 12, 2021, the Governing Board discussed this item as a part of the agenda item: Superintendent’s Update on LCUSD’s Reopening Progress for the 2020-2021 School Year. This item did not serve as appropriate public notification on the agenda for the LCUSD Governing Board to consider taking action regarding the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health’s (LADPH) “strong recommendation” to suspend in-person instruction for the month of January. This agenda item affords the Governing Board the opportunity to vote on whether or not to follow the recommendation and suspend in-person instruction for the last two weeks of January 2021. Financial Implications Currently, there are no financial implications associated with this agenda item.

|
It is recommended that the Governing Board engage in a review and discussion of the agenda item and then take action via a Governing Board vote to determine whether the LCUSD will suspend its in-person instructional programs from January 19-29, 2021 per the strong recommendation of LADPH.

The Governing Board is requested to engage in a review and discussion of the agenda item and then take action via a Governing Board vote to determine whether the LCUSD will suspend its in-person instructional programs from January 19-29, 2021 per the strong recommendation of LADPH.
